Report of the Potluck

We see students going through their everyday tasks in a routine. We wish our students feel energised at all times, to enjoy what they’re doing. Many curricular and co-curricular activities bring students together but maintaining a healthy cultural diversity that keeps the entire student community motivated and enthused, can be a tough task. There is a simpler and more effective alternative that can be just as rewarding and that is eating together with team potlucks which is a tried and tested team-building exercise used across the world for decades. Bonding over shared meals is an activity well-endorsed by psychologists for better child development, stronger family ties and friendships – and the same could be the key to a happier student’s life. Potlucks as fellowship lunch when the group is large was the brainchild of retired professor of Zoology Arul P V in 2009 and the tradition is still being continued in the department of Life Sciences. Potlucks at student’s community bring a feeling of commune and shared culture to the environment, and they are a good excuse for everyone to sit together and bond. Bonding over food is easily the best kind. Eating meals together, as a group, not only has a positive impact on productivity and group dynamics, it also offers different verticals of the Institution/organization a chance to interact with each other in an informal setup particularly in group with language diversity. Organised potluck lunches help bridge gaps and give everyone a chance to mingle and showcase their regional food culture. Remember to make it optional, so that no one feels like another unnecessary task is being forced upon them. Just a small activity is enough to see the change in the overall enthusiasm and energy of the student group. The classroom and gourmet extension where we had the fellowship lunch was flooded with yummy home-made FOOD! And thanks to the students of the 6 BCZ and 6 CBZ  2016-19 batch who did it.
